Island City Mall joins Earth Day 2024
In observance of International Mother Earth Day, bearing the theme “Planet vs. Plastics,” Island City Mall conducted an Earth Day event last April 21, highlighted by a film showing, symposium, and recycling contest at the ICM Activity Center.
The first activity in the morning was the On-the-Spot Recycling Contest, with 12 participating groups showcasing their talents and creativity in recycling materials. The contestants were Team Bayets, Camacho Thinkers, Recycling Queers, Team Creative, Eco Warriors, Team Checkmate, Behind the Art Tandem, Team Ridel, Green Defenders, Billiard Boyz, Royal Duo, and HNU Senior High School. Each of the team was given enough time to finish crafting their recycled products.
Judges of the recycling contest were Mr. Audi Vinci Batausa, Italian artist and former diplomat Jurg Casserini, and local artist Pedro Angco, Jr.
The 1st prize P5,000 went to Team Creative; while the 2nd prize P4,000 was given to team Recycling Queers. The 3rd prize P3,000 was awarded to team Camacho Thinkers. Non-winning teams received a consolation prize of P1,000 each.
In the afternoon, there was a trivia game about Earth Day, followed by a film showing of a documentary flick, “Is Plastic Killing the Earth? An Environmental Documentary.”
After the film showing was the symposium with the topic “Status of the Earth” and “Tips on How to Save Our Environment,” featuring guest speaker environmental advocate, Mr. Raul G. Paler.
